Harrogate PoliceWitness appeal following fatal collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A59 at Green Hammerton.

Officers are particularly keen to trace a man who came to the aid of the victim.

The collision, which occurred at the crossroads with York Road, resulted in the death of an 80-year-old man from York.

He was driving a grey Ford Fiesta when he collided with a red Audi A4 at around 1.40pm on Thursday 19 May 2011.

He was taken to York District Hospital suffering from critical injuries and was sadly pronounced dead on Saturday 21 May 2011.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information, particularly a man who went to the assistance of the injured victim.

Traffic Constable Steve Wood, of Harrogate Road Policing Group, said: “I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident to contact the police, in particular a man who along with another man tried to help the victim. He may have information vital to the investigation.”
