WORK STARTS ON SEVEN SPECULATIVE SMALL INDUSTRIAL UNITS AT THORP ARCH ESTATE (with CGI image) Units1 SEVEN new speculative industrial units are being built at Thorp Arch Estate, near Wetherby. The new small industrial units, which will total 24,000 sq ft, follow news that the estate is to construct a new purpose-built 62,925 sq ft distribution depot next year for drinks distributer, Matthew Clark Wholesale Ltd The latest industrial units are seen as a natural extension to Ash Way and will comprise four adjoining units of 3,000 sq ft each and three of 4,000 sq ft which are expected to be ready for occupation in June 2016. They will have an eaves height of 7m, loading doors, offices, mains services including gas and superfast broadband. Wharfedale Property Management, which manages Thorp Arch Estate, for owner, Rockspring Hanover Property Unit Trust, says that the works will also include construction of a new purpose-built, 12,800 sq ft office and laboratory for biotechnology company, Avacta Group Plc. Avacta Group relocated to Thorp Arch Estate from York Science Park in 2010, and will fit out the new building as offices and laboratory to a high specification to meet their requirements. Director of Wharfedale Property Management, Tim Munns, says: “In 2015 we have helped 26 companies setup or relocate here from nearby towns and cities and an additional nine existing tenants have expanded to new premises on the estate. /more... Units2 “New occupants continue to be attracted by the quality of the buildings, the parkland setting, the close proximity to the A1(M) motorway, the on-site management and security and our retail offer. “From the enquires we have received and the high level of business confidence we think now is the right time to construct additional industrial units, and believe that businesses will be impressed with the quality and specification of new buildings. “We are also delighted to be supporting the continuing expansion of Avacta Group Plc by constructing a new building, and that they have committed their long-term future to the estate.” The two-million sq ft Thorp Arch Estate is a base for a diverse range of more than 140 businesses, from start-ups to large Plcs, operating in local, national and international markets and employing more than 1,800 people. Thorp Arch Retail Park, which forms part of the estate, was the first out-of-town shopping centre in the country when it opened in 1959 and is complemented by a variety of leisure facilities
