Sponsored Zumbathon To Raise Money For Harrogate District Hospital’s Nidderdale Ward

19 September 2017

Zumba enthusiasts will be heading en masse to a North Yorkshire school this weekend (Saturday, 23 September 2017) to benefit visitors to Harrogate District Hospital.

The four-hour, eight instructor Zumbathon – being held from 2pm this Saturday at Harrogate High School – will see up to 300 fans of the Brazilian fitness classes donning lycra and gym wear to help purchase bedside chairs for Nidderdale Ward.

And for every pound raised, Ripon-based Econ Engineering – organiser Fernando Samento De Alencar’s employer – will match it.

Fernando chose Nidderdale Ward as the recipient of the event after the mother of two friends spent a month last year being cared for by staff in the ward before her death.

An observation the pair made during the hours they spent at her bedside was the comfort of the chairs.

The brothers subsequently launched a fundraising drive, and, on the back of this, Fernando decided the proceeds of the Zumbathon should go to the same cause.

Fernando said:

Whilst the care of patients is the hospital’s number one priority is the comfort of visitors is also an important concern, in particular those spending lengthy hours with loved ones nearing the end of their lives.

The cost of a reclining chair is £566 for a manual version, whilst an electric version is almost £1,000. I am very hopeful that the sponsorship money raised, together with the match funding from Econ Engineering, will enable us to purchase at least two electric reclining chairs or four manual ones.

Saturday’s Zumbathon will be a fantastic event, lots of fun, raising money for a great hospital.
