Harrogate Railways 0 – 1 Doncaster Belles

9 April 2017

Harrogate Railway Ladies lost 0-1 today playing host to fourth placed Doncaster Belles, the first half was a good fair game with both sides playing some good football.

Railway created some fine chances with most of the play down the left side with Laura Savage and Sandra Clark doing particularly well, but as time and chances went by the way half time soon came along and the score stayed 0-0.

The second half was a totally different game with some poor tackles flying in with no regard to the outcome, and with the referee not taking hold of some of these the whole second half turned into a kicking and barging match and was not a great thing to watch. However, Doncaster put Railway under great pressure for most of the second half and got their reward with only 8 minutes to go.

Railway needed a single point from this match to ensure they stay up in this league, so with 8 minutes to go they really piled on the pressure but were unable to bag the goal they needed.

At the final whistle, all eyes went on to the league results and when they came in showing Ossett had only managed a draw, relief went through the Railway camp as Ossett can no longer catch Railway, so relegation is not on the cards for the red and greens.

Next week Railway play the newly (and well deserved) champions Farsley Celtic in the final game of the season.
