Bumper month brings a million reasons to be happy at HIC Yorkshire

2 June 2014

Harrogate International Centre stands to secure more than a million pounds in events over the next two years in what has been a bumper month for business at the venue.

The ‘million pound May’ comes after weeks of negotiations by HIC’s sales team and has seen them attract over 20 conferences, exhibitions and shows to Harrogate in 2014 and 2015.

Amongst the events which look set to return to Harrogate, or appear for the first time, are The Association of Chief Police Officers annual conference, the Country Living show and Skipton Building Society conference

HIC Sales manager, Rebecca Turnbull, said: I have been here three years and this is first time I have sent out so many contracts in the space of a month.

We got to about half way through May and realised we were bringing in a huge amount of business.

We had a really big push in April so it was great to see it turn into a million pound May.

Rebecca puts the success down to an ongoing campaign to raise the profile of HIC in national media and in Harrogate itself. She also cites strong relations with organisers as key to the growth in business.

People are seeing us at high profile events like the Exhibition News awards and event industry conventions in London too.

HIC Director, Simon Kent (right) said: This is a phenomenal achievement from the team.

What makes this recent batch of contracts so satisfying for me is that we have a great mix of new and returning events as well as public shows and corporate conferences and exhibitions.

We are almost half way through 2014 now and it seems every month brings more good news for HIC thanks to the dedication of the team here.
