Cross country news from the Harrogate Harriers Juniors

11 November 2012

Harrogate Harriers Juniors competed in the second race of the 2012 West Yorkshire Cross-County League held at Nunroyd Park in Yeadon. The competition involves children from running clubs around West and North Yorkshire competing in various age groups. A muddy course with hills proved a challenge.

The U11 Girls team deserves special mention for their excellent 3rd team place. Helena Da Costa, Amy Proctor and Emma Proctor all making their debuts for Harriers led the team home in 8th, 9th and 16th respectively, followed by strong runs from Amy Warrington and Ashley Farrar. The U11 Boys also fared well with spirited runs from Ben Brennan, Gabriel Rhodes and Evan Ward.

The older athletes showed great enthusiasm and form to help secure their team placing. Special mention to Millie Gray, Alex Tetley, Rhiannon Lyon and Ed Burgess who all showed improvement from their first race and demonstrated the strength of the Club’s U15 squads. Also to Tilly Williams, competing in the U13 girl’s race, who braved half of the race carrying a shoe which came off in the severely muddy conditions.

The cross-country season is now in full flight for the athletes with schools and Club fixtures following on in quick succession. The next race will be held in Huddersfield on Saturday 24th November.
