Yorkshire Water is beginning the next phase of its upgrade to wastewater infrastructure in and around Pannal in Harrogate, in support of approved housing developments in the area.
Contract partners, Mott MacDonald Bentley, are already underway with constructing a wastewater pumping station at Harlow Carr Gardens, a storage tank at Fulwith Mill Lane, and 5km of new sewer pipework around the area, with work currently taking place on Lady Lane.
The next stage will see construction begin on a second pumping station and second storage tank, to build further pressure relief and capacity into the network.
Construction of the pumping station has begun off Spring Lane and is expected to be completed in February 2027. The site will be accessed via an entrance that will be built opposite the junction of Spring Lane and Westminster Drive, and to keep everyone safe, there will be temporary traffic lights in place while the entrance is constructed.
The second storage tank will be built behind Pannal Green, where preliminary works have started.
Together, the storage tanks will build over 2000m3 of extra capacity into the existing network, holding up to two million litres of excess wastewater and rainwater, in support of new developments.

The work in Harrogate forms part of Yorkshire Water’s £8.3bn improvement programme – its largest ever investment in to infrastructure, customer experience, and environment.
