As Yorkshire celebrates its famous openness, community spirit and love of the great outdoors on Yorkshire Day, August 1st, one North Yorkshire club is inviting people to experience those values in a rather unusual way – by leaving their clothes at the gate.
Valley Sun Club, a friendly naturist club set in peaceful countryside near Harrogate, is holding a free Discovery Day on Saturday 1st August, giving visitors the opportunity to find out what naturism is really about in a relaxed, welcoming and completely pressure-free environment.
The event is open to anyone who is curious about naturism, who enjoys spending time outdoors, or who simply wants to discover a different way to relax and improve their wellbeing.
Club spokesperson, Steve Knight, said:
Many people think naturism is about taking your clothes off.
In reality, it’s about more than that – feeling comfortable in your own skin, enjoying nature and meeting friendly, genuine people without judgement.
Yorkshire Day is the perfect opportunity to discover that for yourself.
According to British Naturism, the UK’s national naturist organisation, naturism is simply the practice of going without clothing in appropriate social settings. The organisation says many participants experience improved body confidence, reduced stress and a greater sense of wellbeing as a result.
Visitors to Valley Sun Club’s Discovery Day will receive a warm Yorkshire welcome from club members and can enjoy guided tours of the facilities, informal chats about naturism, optional activities including boules and mini golf, or simply relaxing in the club’s attractive grounds.
The Discovery Day has been designed especially for first-time visitors and who might be having their first experience of social nudity.
Club Secretary, Neil, added:
We know that walking through the gates for the first time can feel a little daunting because every one of our members was once a first-timer too.
Our aim is simply to help people feel comfortable, answer their questions honestly and let them experience the friendly atmosphere that naturism offers.
The club believes naturism shares many of the values Yorkshire is famous for:
- A love of the outdoors and the beautiful countryside
- A straightforward, down-to-earth approach with no airs or graces
- A welcoming community where everyone is accepted as they are
- An opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy life without the pressures of everyday
appearances
The Discovery Day is completely free to attend (a real Yorkshire bargain!) and there is
absolutely no obligation to apply for club membership afterwards.
Whether visitors decide to take part in optional sports activities, enjoy a guided tour or
simply satisfy their curiosity, the club hopes they will leave with a better understanding
of naturism and why it continues to grow in popularity across the UK.
Places are limited, and advance booking is essential.
