Yorkshire residents invited to open their homes to support children’s hospice this June
People across Yorkshire are being encouraged to host their own events at home this summer, as part of a new fundraising campaign for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
The ‘Open House’ initiative invites supporters to open their home, community space or business this June, and host an event that brings people together – no matter how big or small.
From coffee and cake with friends, to garden picnics, quiz nights with colleagues, and charity lunches – anything goes. Every pound raised will help fund vital care for children with life-shortening conditions.
Each year, Martin House provides specialist palliative care and support to more than 550 children, young people and their families across West, North and East Yorkshire. All services are available free of charge, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and include planned short breaks, symptom management, and end-of-life care.
Robyn Mountain Wade, Director of Income Generation at Martin House, said:
Open House is all about bringing people together around a really simple idea – putting the kettle on and opening your door to support local families.
Whether it’s a small get-together with friends or a bigger event with your business or community, every single event helps us continue to provide the care families rely on.
Organisers are also encouraged to share their events on social media, helping to inspire others to get involved and raise awareness of the hospice’s work.
Robyn said:
It costs around £13 million a year to run Martin House, with the majority of funding coming from voluntary donations. Every Open House helps make sure we can be there for families when they need us most.
The campaign comes at a significant moment for the hospice, following the completion of a £21.9m redevelopment project – The BUILD – designed to support more families than ever before. The new-look hospice is set to officially open its doors in June.
