Man set to make full recovery after officers provide life-saving first aid

10 April 2026

Two North Yorkshire Police dog handlers have saved the life of a man who was found collapsed on a rural lane.

The officers were first on the scene yesterday (9 April) after the report came in from a member of the public that a man was found unresponsive on a track at the side of the A19 near Northallerton.

Thanks to the officers first aid training, they quickly realised the critical nature of the situation when the man showed signs of severe breathing difficulties.

They immediately began CPR, and on receiving information that man had also taken drugs, they administered Naloxone – a drug antidote – through a nasal spray.

A short time later the man began to show signs of recovery. He was then passed into the care of ambulance staff who later confirmed that the man was expected to make a full recovery.

Inspector Amy Blakeley of North Yorkshire Police, said:

We’re very pleased to hear that the man is expected to make a full recovery.

We’re very proud of our officers who acted swiftly and professionally to respond to a critical situation, resulting in a life being saved.

It’s a glimpse into what goes on every day in policing that the public rarely see.

My thanks also go to the member of the public who called in with information, had they not, it may have had a very different outcome.
