Entrepreneurial young gym owner continues to push the boundaries with her progressive fitness space, Lift Club, on the outskirts of Harrogate.
Last year saw 25-year-old Beth Johnson invest £250k in creating Lift Club, a 3000 sq ft state-of-art gym facility in Thirkill Park, Pannal, just off the A61. The goal was to provide an environment for total social health and wellbeing, a community where members could feel comfortable, achieve fitness goals and enjoy a place to meet and relax
And she did just that. She worked to build the membership base up to over a 100, providing a main gym area with an impressive range of equipment for both class and individual use, adding a personal service with guidance and one to one support within the group experience.
Not one to stand still, Beth realised that she wanted to offer more. To refine what the gym provided and create a more personal and higher class of service not on offer elsewhere in Harrogate. Earlier this year, Beth invested in a remodelling of the gym space to accommodate a new way of training and a far more premium experience.
Beth said:
This new concept, which is already big in London, combines the energy of a community gym environment with the benefit of 1 to 1 coaching.
I want to offer something more than a class-based gym, more personal, where everything is individualised.
The sessions are run on a 6 to 1 ratio, where one coach works with a small group to ensure that each session is adapted to the ability and goals of each member. No one person will have the same experience, obtaining the training they need rather than what they think they need.
The team at Lift Club provide on and off the floor coaching along with nutrition guidance and accountability. The small group personalised training is paired with Reformer Pilates available in a dedicated upstairs space, along with a relax and recovery area complete with sauna and ice bath.
Beth has a degree in Sports Nutrition and studied Sport & Exercise Science at York College. As well as owning and managing the gym, she has nine years of personal training under her belt and numerous vocational qualifications. Earlier this year Beth was a finalist at the Yorkshire Businesswoman of the Year awards, Rising Star category.
