Local shop robbed at knifepoint

Police were called at around 10.45pm on Tuesday 20 December 2011, after reports of a robbery at McColls on King Edwards Drive in Harrogate.

A man, wearing a black balaclava, entered the shop, threatened the staff with a knife and demanded they hand over money from the till.

One of the shop workers handed over a sum of cash and the man ran off towards Albany Road, still carrying the knife.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the area and located the suspect, a 24-year-old local man, on Woodfield Road at around 11.55pm.

He is currently in police custody as enquiries continue.
