Chrismouse Advent Window in Knaresborough

30 December 2025

Nestled in Butter Lane, just off Knaresborough’s Market Place, a unique advent calendar is taking shape day by day. In the window of the Buttercup Community Café is the Chrismouse Advent Window: a display of magical little vistas in which mice are celebrating the festive season in their own special ways.

Whether they are pulling their Christmas cracker or sharing Christmas dinner, dancing at a disco or fast asleep, these beautifully crafted mice are sure to charm and amuse passers-by. Enjoy the countdown to Christmas with the unfolding magic of these miniature scenes.

The Chrismouse Advent Window is a project organised by Emma Edgar (Luck and Loop) – who also developed the Knaresborough Chrismouse Trail in 2024 – together with Yorkshire CREATE Studios. The window makers are 24 artists and community groups who have contributed their work free of charge for all to enjoy.

Their names can be seen in the window, next to their work. Chrismouse provides an opportunity to celebrate our creative community and showcase talented local artists and makers during the festive period.

Knaresborough Town Council were instrumental in supporting the project, making it possible through their generous donation. North Yorkshire Council’s locality grant also funded free activity packs for local primary schools, as well as drop-in crafts over the Christmas Market weekend.
