Children from Brackenfield School spread joy during Kindness Week

23 October 2025

Brackenfield say that being kind is a cornerstone of daily life at the school, and took part in a recent Kindness Week initiative.

The week comprised of numerous activities that took place at school and around Harrogate. Acts of kindness were carried out by Brackenfield’s pupils and their teachers and were as follows:

  • Brackenfield’s pupils took to the streets of Harrogate and delivered gifts which were extremely well received. The gifts had been made in school and comprised of heart shaped cards; hearts painted on wood and fabric making delightful ornaments as well as letters and poetry.
  • Additionally, residents of care homes local to Brackenfield were invited for a delicious afternoon tea. All the school’s pupils mingled with their guests and showed off their excellent schoolwork in between stellar performances. The school choirs sang, a solo violinist played, Year 2 drummed, poetry was recited.
  • Separately, the Reception class provided excellent entertainment for the residents of Hampden House when their P.E. lesson took place in the residents’ communal sitting room.
  • On another day Year 5 and 6 drew the crowds with a rendition of ‘Here Comes the Sun’ amongst other songs in the centre of Harrogate whilst Year 2 and 4’s ‘pop up’ performances in Valley Gardens provided equally engaging entertainment.
  • Pinewoods Conservation Trust were given a helping hand by Brackenfield’s pupils who spent an afternoon litter picking.

Mr Joe Masterson, Headmaster at Brackenfield said:

You only need to look at the news for a few moments to realise that the greatest gift we can bestow upon our pupils – is to teach them to be kind. If kindness is prioritised, we all benefit; just like the Brackenfield community did.

A recipient of a kindness gift sent the following email into school:

Please will you thank all the children on my behalf for their delightful visit yesterday and the absolutely beautiful fabric heart they gave me.

After a busy week it really made my day, especially seeing their happy, smiling faces. It is good to know that the wonderful school that is Brackenfield cares for all aspects of the children’s’ education and wellbeing.
