The latest Berwins Salon North series – the evening that gets everybody talking – draws to a close this month as three exciting guest speakers explore ideas of identity and how we shape who we are – from awkward teenage bedrooms to forgotten corners of history and digital dreamscapes.
Writer and lecturer Adam Farrer joins digital beauty expert Dr Alex Box and tour guide Jenny Draper at The Crown Hotel, in Harrogate, on Thursday, November 20, for this year’s finale in the ever-popular Salon series.
These unique cabaret-style nights out, sponsored by Berwins Solicitors, bring together three experts to explore the most stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology.
Adam Farrer, whose latest book, Broken Biscuits and Other Male Failures, is a candid, funny and deeply personal look at what it means to be a man today, will share his take on identity, vulnerability and trying to live up to masculine expectations.
He is joined by Dr Alex Box who will look at what happens when beauty and make-up meet machines and how technology is changing the way we express ourselves – from algorithms that help people find the perfect foundation to virtual cosmetics designed for avatars.
Tour guide and self-described London history nerd Jenny Draper has made it her mission to uncover the quirks, secrets and forgotten stories of our capital. Rather than focusing on kings and queens, she brings history to life through tales of underdogs, oddballs and trailblazers.
The TED-style talks – voted number six in the ‘Top 100 Things to do in the World’ by GQ magazine – explore big ideas in these relaxed, cabaret-style evenings where each speaker is given the challenge of engaging their audience within a 25-minute set.
