Fountains 10K to support pupils’ learning

12 December 2016

The annual Fountains 10k in North Yorkshire is aiming high this year having set the ambitious target of £10,000 for the benefit of children’s learning.

The race, now in its 19th year, is the main fundraising event for local school Fountains CE Primary School in Grantley, Ripon.

This year race organisers have set themselves the challenge of raising £10,000 for much-needed IT equipment for the school which has more than 100 pupils.

The funds will enable a new interactive screen to be installed in the school hall and provide additional laptops to support the children’s learning.

Yorkshire country cricketer Ryan Sidebottom is on board as patron of the charity behind the Fountains 10k which every year attracts huge numbers of runners. It takes place next year on 2 April and will be accompanied by a children’s fun run.

Race director Mark Reed is appealing for sponsors as well as participants to get behind the 2017 10k to ensure the £10,000 target is reached.

Mark – whose children Evy, 9, and Asa, 7, are pupils at Fountains – said:

The 10k is the school’s big fundraiser of the year and we want 2017 to represent a step change in our children’s learning.

We are all very proud of our event which is all about fun whether you are challenging the course record or just trying to get to the finish line!

We are grateful for the sponsors we have on board but we would welcome many more and of course we want as many people as possible to sign up to do the 10k and the fun run.

The Fountains 10k follows a course of mixed terrain in beautiful Nidderdale, including country roads, off-road trails and scenic moorland. The race starts and finishes in Grantley.

Karen Butler, headteacher of Fountains CE Primary, said:

The 10k is a fantastic event for all the family. It is set in the most stunning countryside and offers a real challenge to the runners taking part, supported by the community all coming together.

IT is moving and changing so quickly we want to ensure the children have the most up to date equipment to support their learning so it would be fantastic if we can reach our target of £10,000.

We are very lucky to have Ryan Sidebottom as our patron this year and would like to thank him and all our sponsors for their support.

Mark and his team are looking for business sponsors and have already had support pledged by, amongst others, estate agency Dacre, Son and Hartley, Sainsbury’s Ripon, and SubSports.
