Over 3000 wild flowers for the Pinewoods

29 May 2016

The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) is reaching the end of a project to plant over 3000 new wild flowers in the Pinewoods to increase bio-diversity within the woods. A number of events have been held with volunteers to plant the flowers grown by Harrogate Council Nurseries.

As a last push an event is planned for Sunday 5 June 2016 from 10am for 1 to 2 hours with a request for volunteers to help with the planting. Volunteers are asked to bring a trowel and meet at Harrogate Council Nurseries off Harlow Moor Road.

Committee Member Carolyn Rothwell leading on the planting project said:

With a good number of groups and volunteers already helping with our efforts this is the final push for the year. Just a small amount of time spent helping to plant will ensure we reach our target of over 3000 new wild flowers within the woods. We know this will not only keep the balsam down but also increase bio-diversity within the woods benefiting all our visitors.

It is hoped that a number of the new plants will be in flower for the upcoming Teddy Bears picnic planned for Saturday 25 June from 12pm.

The free picnic, on the new community green space next to Harrogate Spring Water on Harlow Moor Road, will feature a nature trail with fun and games for all the family. More details at www.pinewoodsconservationgroup.org.uk
