Sunday buses from Ripon to the Dales return for the summer

11 May 2016

The popular Sunday buses from Ripon to Fountains Abbey, Pateley Bridge, Wharfedale, Leyburn and Richmond are running again this summer.

Chris Nash is the Chair of the Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company, who manage the services with financial support from the National Trust, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the Yorkshire Dales Society.

Chris said:

These services provide access to some of the most beautiful countryside in the Yorkshire Dales.

Scientific research shows the immense health giving benefits for people being able to enjoy a walk, even if only a few miles, in a magnificent countryside setting. Without these weekly DalesBus services the Dales would be closed off to very many people, locals as well as visitors.

Fountains Flyer service 812 runs from Ripon Bus Station at 1000 to Fountains Abbey, Pateley Bridge and Grassington every Sunday and Bank Holiday, with an extra bus just to Fountains Abbey at 1240. Return buses leave Grassington at 1600, Pateley Bridge at 1630 and Fountains Abbey at 1420 and 1650.

Eastern Dalesman bus 859 runs from Ripon Bus Station at 1115 to Masham, Jervaulx Abbey, Middleham, Leyburn and Richmond. The return bus leaves Richmond at 1520, Leyburn at 1550, Middleham at 1555, Jervaulx Abbey at 1602 and Masham at 1613, arriving back in Ripon at 1635.

Concessionary bus passes are not valid for free travel on these services, but passholders and students can buy a day ticket for just £6, and anyone can buy a Dales Freedom Rover ticket for £10.

Full details of the Sunday and Bank Holiday DalesBus network are included in Metro’s Summer DalesBus timetable booklet available locally, and timetables are also available online at www.dalesbus.org
