Man who died following collision in York now named

The man who died following a collision with a taxi on Micklegate in York yesterday has been formally named as Robert Stephenson.

Police were called just after 2.30am yesterday morning (26 March 2016) to reports of an incident involving a Ford Mondeo taxi cab and a pedestrian.

Ambulance crews were also called and treated Mr Stephenson at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to York District Hospital but sadly he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Family of the 21-year-old from the Pickering area have today issued a statement telling of their grief. They said:

We are devastated at our loss and still trying to come to terms with it as a family. We’d like time to grieve privately and thank all our friends and family for their support and kind thoughts.

Mr Stephenson, who was socialising in York with friends, was formally identified yesterday and enquiries into the incident are ongoing. His family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw Mr Stephenson or the taxi in the moments before it happened to get in touch immediately on 101 and quote incident number 12160052322.
