Dangerous roof forces closure of Station Parade in Harrogate

Station Parade in Harrogate has been closed due to problems with the roof of Waitrose. (29 January 2016).

Update now reopened – 13:40

The Fire Service and Police are currently in attendance.

Waitrose are currently investigating the problem and have not released a resolution time. Work can only commence when the wind drops as this would allow safe access to the roof by contractors.

Waitrose spokesperson said:

Safety is paramount and although the high winds have not caused any tiles to fall at this time, the police cordoned off the affected area as a precaution.

The fire brigade are on site to ensure the area is safe and will advise the police when it is safe to reopen the road.

We are grateful to shoppers’ for their understanding and the emergency services for their swift action.
