A Christmas gift from the Harrogate Brass Band

21 December 2015

Knaresborough residents were treated to a surprise Christmas treat last Friday as The Harrogate Brass Band visited much loved supporter and former player, Roy Fletcher.

The band played carols outside his house where neighbours also joined in with Roy and his wife Frieda. Afterwards the players enjoyed a cup of tea and had a chance to catch up with Roy on his playing exploits over the years.

Roy said:

It’s made my Christmas, I can’t thank the Band enough. Brass music has been so important to my life it’s been wonderful to listen to the carols.

“A Christmas Gift”, is an idea the players came up with in August and one we’ll be repeating for friends and longstanding supporters of the band each year.

The Band chooses a longstanding supporter and friend of the Band to perform carols for each year at their home.

This year was the turn of Roy Fletcher who retired from the Band 9 years ago and is in his 80’s. Roy played in Bands most of his life all over Yorkshire. Some of his fondest memories are of playing on Christmas Day in Huddersfield, getting up at 8 in the morning, walking across the town and playing carols.
