Harrogate’s Royal Hall receives generous gift

9 November 2015

Harrogate’s Royal Hall has just received a generous gift from a local businessman and it is a gift that will ‘keep on giving’.

Richard Penny of Harrogate’s Oak By Design has crafted three beautiful bespoke boxes for the Royal Hall Restoration Trust to use to collect donations during its increasingly popular programme of open days and tours of the Hall.

The Trust launched the programme this year to improve free public access to Harrogate’s most iconic building which is also of national, historical and cultural importance.

Chair of the Restoration Trust, Russell Davidson, said that the Hall is more than just a theatre and people should take advantage of the open days and enjoy looking at and learning about the building itself.

Russell Davidson said:

In 2008, the Hall underwent an £11m restoration project which returned the building to its Edwardian opulence but you can never say the job is done.  The Trust has a duty to ensure that this beautiful building is preserved for generations to come.  That takes money.  Donations however small or large are vital.

The Trust had looked at off the shelf donation boxes but felt bespoke boxes would be better. They approached Richard at Oak By Design and were delighted when he agreed to make the boxes and gift them to the Trust.

Director of Oak By Design, Richard Penny, said:
I am privileged to have been able to contribute to the continued restoration of this magnificent local amenity.
