Harrogate Railway Ladies had a 142 mile round trip today for there first league game at Courts City Ladies in Hull and it turned out to be a very disappointing day, Railway loosing 4-0 to a team that has already conceded 7 goals in two league matches and were sat bottom of the league.
Railway certainly started brightly and for the first 12 minutes had City on the back foot, however things then started to go badly wrong, with bad passing, poor ball control and a lack of Communication, City started to pressure the Railway goal. Keeper Erica Birnie did have a good match with some top draw finger tip saves to keep the score down to 2-0 at half time. On the side lines the manager was in complete disbelief of the whole first half and couldn’t wait for the half time whistle to come.
After the half time chat! The Railways ladies came out to prove how well they could play and thus created some good 4 or 5 passes moving forward and getting some shots on goal, one of these was a great strike by Nicola Hadley from 20 yards out sending the ball skimming over the bar. As Railway pushed up looking for a goal this then allowed City to thump out long over the top clearances and have the railway defence on the turn. Player of the match went to Kat Purvis for her hard work and determination as she was switched from left back to full back to cover injuries and management tactics. On the 72nd minute City broke down the right put in a cross that was sweetly met by City’s forward player to head home 3-0. Railway didn’t seem to have much luck on there side either as 2, goal mouth scrambles failed to go in, the match was killed off in the 91st minute with City bagging their 4th.
A very disappointing lose for the Railway ladies in this new league but more importantly a very disappointing performance across the board by the majority of the team and so with next weeks first home game against Doncaster Belles a lot of work is needed in this weeks training.
