35 pigs die following A59 collision

Emergency services today attended the scene of a collision on the A59, Boroughbridge Road near Upper Poppleton in York which involves two lorries and a car.

The crash was reported at 10.20am today (Thursday 6 November 2014).

One of the lorries had overturned and was carrying around 200 live pigs and sadly 35 of them died or were euthanized

The road was cleaned and remained closed for some time.

Two vets attended the incident along with the RSPCA who oversaw the animals’ welfare
