Tragic road death in York – Victim named as detectives urge two men to contact them

Detectives in York investigating the death of a man in the city are urging two local men to come forward immediately.

Officers need to talk with them regarding the death of a 21-year-old York man, who it is believed had been involved in a violent incident on Haxby Road before being hit by a taxi.

The man who died was Sam Wilson, who was 21 and from Haxby, York.

Detective Inspector Andrea Kell, of York CID said: The men we are looking for know that we need to speak to them as a matter of urgency. I urge them to come forward and contact the police immediately. It is in their own best interests to do so, sooner rather than later.

Officers have already visited a number of addresses to which the two men have links.

They will continue to actively search for them until they have been traced.

I am also asking for anyone who witnessed the violent incident or the collision, which led to this tragic death, to contact the police straight away, as they may have vital information which could progress my enquiries.

A 20-year-old York man who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter remains in police custody.

Also in custody are a 16-year-old girl and a 20-year-old woman, both from York. They are assisting police with their enquiries.
Two men, both 18 and from York, have been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

A 22-year-old local man who was arrested following the incident has been released from police custody and faces no further action.
