Sports centre calls for community input

2 October 2014

The new manager of Rossett Sports Centre in Harrogate is calling for members of the community to get involved with planning its future.

Josh Lyon is inviting people to send him suggestions of what new activities they would like to see offered at Rossett in the future, and what they would like to be reinstated.

It follows the change of management in July which saw Rossett School take over the running of the centre from Harrogate Borough Council. Since then, Mr Lyon – who was previously a duty manager at the centre – has been working hard to maintain regular bookings and get back in touch with previous sports centre users.

Josh said: Rossett Sports Centre has a lot of history and is held in great affection by the Harrogate community.

From football area league matches, to recreational squash and badminton, it has hosted a huge range of events in the past. While we know from experience that some activities are hugely popular, we would like to hear about those which perhaps haven’t been offered before, or were dropped from the programme some time ago which people want to see being offered again.

Whether they have used the sports centre in the past or not, we would like everyone to have the opportunity to offer suggestions regarding its future use.

Our main goal is to offer better facilities with better accessibility to the local community. We are also looking to unveil a user friendly online booking system over the coming months to make it even easier for people to get involved.

The centre has already seen the refurbishment of all the changing facilities over the summer holidays and more work is expected to be carried out over the next couple of months.

Although the centre has now fully re-opened to the public an official community opening event will be held in November once more refurbishment work has been completed. The centre already feels more modern and welcoming, and the new programme of activities will allow as many people as possible to make use of the community sports facilities.

To contact Josh with suggestions for the centre’s future programme, email sportscentre@rossettschool.co.uk or call 01423 564462.
