Just after 11pm on Friday 27 July 2012, a red Seat car collided with the cyclist at the junction with Charlton Street.
The Seat failed to stop at the scene and then went on to collide with a parked transit van further along Bishopthorpe Road before coming to rest upside down.
The 15-year-old male driver of the car was arrested at the scene of the second collision on suspicion of numerous offences including taking a car without consent, drink driving and failing to stop after a collision.
Police are appealing for witnesses to either of the collisions or anyone who saw the Seat travelling in the Bishopthorpe Road area prior to the two collisions.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson by ringing 101, select option 2 and ask for Julian Pearson, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The 15-year-old youth has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.
