10 July 2012

policeDetectives investigating after a 44-year-old man was seriously injured during a large disturbance in York have made two further arrests in connection with the incident.

Last night (Monday 9 July 2012) a 26-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, both from York, were arrested in the Blackpool area in connection with the investigation.

They remain in police custody for questioning.

The victim suffered serious head and back injuries during the disturbance on Murton Lane at around 4.30pm on Saturday 7 July 2012 and was taken to York District Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Following the incident a 35-year-old man was arrested in the Wigginton Road area of the city at around 7.30pm that evening.

A 23-year-old local man was also arrested in York this afternoon (10 July 12) in connection with the incident.

Despite the arrests, officers still need people to come forward with information so they can establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Costello, of North Yorkshire Police, said:

Although the investigation is progressing and we have made some arrests, we are still actively seeking other people in connection with this incident.

A man is in hospital with serious injuries and he is lucky to be alive. If you have any information about what happened to him and how he sustained his injuries, I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.

It doesn’t matter how small you may think the information you have is, it could be absolutely vital to the investigation and it is important that you come forward as soon as possible.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for York CID.

If you wish to pass information anonymously, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
