More arrests made for football disorder

Thirty-one people have now been arrested by detectives investigating a large scale disorder in Huddersfield. This follows the release of two lots of CCTV images of men Police wanted to speak to.

Five people are still outstanding so Police have today released their images in the hope that someone will recognise them.

The football disorder happened on Saturday, 19th May on the afternoon of the Championship Play-Off final. It’s believed fans of Huddersfield Town, Bradford City and Leeds United were involved in the disorder.

The main incident took place on Westgate and Market Street in Huddersfield, before continuing in the railway station and spilling on to the tracks. Several men chased each other through the platforms and eventually down the track towards Deighton causing sixty-one trains to be delayed and seven to be cancelled altogether. In all, the disruption caused nearly 15 hours worth of delays and cost thousands in lost earnings.

The thirty-one males arrested range in age from 15 to 47 and come from the Huddersfield, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Selby areas.

Acting Detective Sergeant Nick Doyle of Huddersfield CID said:

Thanks to the public, we have now arrested thirty-one men who we believe were involved in the football disorder. We still need help identifying five people and we anticipate further arrests will take place. We want to send out a clear message to so called fans who want to cause trouble that it will not be tolerated and we will take action to put a stop to them.

Anyone who recognises any of the people shown in the CCTV images is asked to contact Acting Sergeant Nick Doyle on 101 quoting the reference number of the image.
