Pupils from North Yorkshire prep school Belmont Grosvenor sung their hearts out when they joined the UK’s biggest School Choir Concert.

Members of Belmont Grosvenor School’s senior choir travelled across the Pennines to join in Young Voices, a national choral event that brings together over 90,000 children and 6,000 teachers in 14 charity concerts at the UK and Ireland’s largest arenas.

The Young Voices event, which aims to inspire and motivate children and young people and introduce them to the joys of music and singing, has involved more than 1 million schoolchildren since it began 15 years ago.

Belmont Grosvenor School pupils Emily and Sophie Belcher, who took part in the event for the first time, said the Young Voices concert, at Manchester, had been a fantastic experience.

The girls said:

Everyone was really excited when the concert started and all the children joined in singing along with some of the famous people who were on stage.

There were three really good backing singers and a great band too. It was like going to a pop concert but we got to sing too!

Mrs Emma Shea, Director of Music at Belmont Grosvenor School, based at Swarcliffe Hall, Birstwith, said the school’s Senior Choir joined with 6,500 other voices for the sell-out Manchester concert.

 Mrs Emma Shea said:

We had been rehearsing the songs and dance moves for Young Voices since September last year. The concert included a mix of music, from the traditional song Guadete, sung in Latin, to the popular music of Katy Perry and Queen.

The children came away with some lifelong memories of performing on such a massive scale to an audience of thousands.

Belmont Grosvenor School, along with the Magic Tree Day Nursery, is set in 20 acres of grounds on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, and caters for children from the age of three months to 11 years.
