Police investigate £25,000 jewellery theft in York

Detectives in are appealing for information following the theft of distinctive jewellery from a shop in the city.

It was stolen during a at Palenque jewellers, Low Petergate between 1.55am and 2.30am on Monday 12 December 2011, when thieves entered through the rear of the shop.

The stolen items include a 14ct gold pearl necklace, earring and bracelet set valued at £3,800, a 14ct gold necklace/bracelet set valued at £1,000, an Icarus 14ct pearl necklace valued at £415 and six trays of silver and gold rings decorated with cubic zirconium and diamond solitaires valued at around £20,000.

Detective Constable Mo Mohammed, of York CID, said:

The stolen jewellery is very rare and highly distinctive so I am positive that people will recognize it.

I am particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen suspicious activity.

I am urging anyone with information about the thieves or where the stolen jewellery is to contact the police, or Crimestoppers if they would prefer to remain anonymous, immediately.
