Arson Park Avenue, Roundhay

28 June 2011

Police in Leeds are appealing for information after a couple had to flee their home following a fire that police believe was deliberately ignited in a wheelie bin.

The incident occurred on Park Avenue in the Roundhay area of Leeds around 4am yesterday morning (27June 2011).

Police believe the suspects moved the wheelie bin placing it between a black Peugeot RCZ car, which was parked on the driveway, and the property.

The intensity of the fire caused the kitchen window of the property to blow and also damaged the nearby living room window leading to smoke damage to the downstairs area.

Fortunately both adult occupants were able to escape from the house without injury after they were woken by the vehicle’s alarm which had sounded as a result of the fire.

Detective Constable Kent, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a disturbing incident from which the consequences could have been much worse.

“Park Avenue is in a very residential area of the city and it would have been unusual to have seen anyone at the time in the early hours of Monday morning.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen something or has any information to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the DC Ann-Marie Kent at Stainbeck Police Station via: 0845 60 60 606.
