White van driver sought following serious motorbike crash

Police are appealing for the driver of a white van to come forward following a motorcyclist suffering serious injuries near Richmond today (Tuesday 7 June 2011).

At around 12:50pm a blue Honda Motorcycle was travelling towards Reeth along the A6108 Reeth Road, approximately one mile outside of Richmond.

A white Ford Transit panel van with company markings was travelling in the same direction.

The motorcyclist, a 64-year-old man from the Middlesbrough area, came off his bike and suffered serious injuries to his head and abdomen.

He was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough by air ambulance where he remains in a serious condition.

Investigating officer, TC Graham Waller, said: “The driver of the white van stopped at the scene but then left without leaving any details. We are appealing for him to come forward as he may have vital information which could help the investigation.

“We are also appealing for any other witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicles prior to the crash to come forward.”
