Located at Pannal Business Park, Station Road, Pannal, CrossFit is favoured by military special operations units, champion martial artists, emergency services and professional athletes worldwide.

It is also suitable for people of all ages and all abilities and the pair are keen to promote their venture as “family friendly”.

The new fitness centre is one of only 35 affiliates in the country specialising in this form of inclusive fitness.

And those interested in finding out about CrossFit – which is totally different to any other gym or exercise class – are being invited to one of four public taster sessions, being held on the weekend of April 30 and May 1, and May 7 and 8.

Co-founder Andy Ruddick, an advanced fitness instructor and CrossFit certified coach, said: “Five years ago I was living an extremely unhealthy lifestyle and as a result my weight ballooned to 19 stone.

“I re-educated myself in terms of healthy living and eating, gave up alcohol, and studied as a personal fitness trainer.

“I started my own business and, while studying handstand techniques for clients, I discovered CrossFit. It had many things in common with how I already trained my clients, namely large function movements performed at high intensity, but this went much, much further.”

Andy began training at CrossFit Leeds, where he met business partner, Peter Davis, a sports and business graduate, and advanced personal trainer and sports massage therapist

Andy added: “We are delighted to be opening the first CrossFit in North Yorkshire and know it will attract a significant amount of interest from across the Harrogate region.

“The beauty about CrossFit is it’s unlike any other gym or fitness routine. You won’t find row upon row of machines or mirrors in a CrossFit centre. We are situated in a semi-industrial setting.

“CrossFit is all inclusive and anyone of any age can do it. The strength and conditioning routines we coach are manageable for everybody.

Co-founder Peter Davis said: “At CrossFit HG3, we define fitness as the ability to perform well across all ten recognised physical skills; Cardio-respiratory, Endurance, Strength, Flexibility, Stamina, Speed, Power, Accuracy, Agility, Balance and Co-ordination.

“Our speciality is we don’t specialise. This results in us producing well balanced athletes, who can perform across a broad spectrum of disciplines and tasks.

“This guiding principle makes us not only fitter and able to deal with whatever life throws at us, but to excel at it.”

CrossFit HG3 opens it doors at 8am on Saturday, April 30, and further information about the two weekend taster sessions are available by visiting www.crossfithg3.com, or by calling Andy Ruddick on 07773 331 070.
