Bus driver attacker captured on CCTV

Harrogate police are appealing for witnesses after a bus driver was assaulted at South Stainley.

Officers have released CCTV footage of a man suspected of carrying out the attack on Friday 31 January 2010, aboard the number 36 bus from Ripon to Harrogate.

The incident occurred at the stop outside the Red Lion at around 2.30pm when a man punched the driver several times in the face before getting off the bus.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Harrogate was not seriously hurt during the assault, however he suffered bruising and reddening to his face.

Police are urging the public to help them identify the man responsible for the attack.

PC Yvonne Lofthouse, of Harrogate police, said: “This was an unacceptable, unprovoked assault on a man going about his job.

“The CCTV still that we have released clearly shows the suspect and I am hoping that someone will recognise him and help us to identify him.

“I would urge anyone who can help the investigation to contact the police or Crimestoppers.”
