Police issue warning after bogus callers target elderly couple in Boroughbridge

Police are warning people to be vigilant after a couple in their 80’s were visited by two men claiming to be builders.

The couple were visited at their home in the Horsefair area of Boroughbridge on Monday 1 September 2014, by two men who talked their way into the house and stole £600 in cash.

Officers are trying to identify the two men and their vehicle, which has been described as a cream-coloured Ford Escort car derived van with ladders on the roof.

The first man is described as white, clean shaven, aged in his mid-20s, around 5ft 4in tall, with a slim build and cropped, brown hair. He was wearing a grey, long sleeved shirt and grey trousers. He spoke with a northern accent.

The second man was white, clean shaven, aged in his mid-20s, around 5ft 8in tall, with a medium build and short, curly, black hair. He was wearing a blue or grey shirt and blue jeans.

Officers are urging anyone who has been visited in similar circumstances to contact them with information.

You are also urged to come forward if you see or have seen anyone matching the description of the men or their vehicle in the Boroughbridge area recently.
