Harrogate Town 2 – 0 Worcester City

10 November 2013

A Harrogate Town team hit by illness and injuries battled to a win over Worcester City.

The pitch stood up well to a torrential pre match downpour, which at least, produced a spectacular rainbow.

A minutes silence for Rememberance Day was impeccably observed before the match got underway.

Within seconds Liam Hardy tried to add to his growing goal tally, but blasted past the near post.

A dangerous,Craig Nelthorpe cross, almost played in Anton Brown, while at the other end Adam Nowakowski was on hand to concede a corner after Craig MacGillivray spilt Ellis Beeny’s dipping shot.

A series of Worcester corners ended with the Town defence bravely blocking a vicious drive from Niall Thompson.

Ex Town keeper,Jose De Veiga saved well from Hardy and Cleveland Taylor, but it was MacGillivray who made the save of the half when he tipped an Aaron Williams header round the post.

At the break, injured duo, Dwayne Samuels and Nowakowski, made way for Chris Hall and Dominic Rowe.

After initial City pressure in which “Man of the Match”, MacGillivray displayed a safe pair of hands to cut out several crosses,Town hit back.

George Williams was booked for an illegal block to halt the speedy Rowe, and Brown’s header from a Dave Merris corner found Adam Bolder who shot just wide.

Nelthorpe’s foul on Dior Angus, which earned him a yellow card, led to a tremendous goalmouth scramble,in which the home goal had a charmed life.

Harry Ashton replaced the injured De Veiga in the City goal and his first task was to pick the ball out of the net.

Harrogate TownBolder’s excellent through ball released Hall whose initial shot was blocked by Ashton, but Town’s third substitute, Ashley Worsfold, was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Worcester had a golden chance to equalise immediately afterwards but the unmarked Aaron Williams was thwarted by a superb save by MacGillivray.

However, it was Town who finished the better.Ashton had to race quickly out of his goal to deny Adam Mitchell after Worsfold chip over the defence sent him clear.

In the final minute, the influential Bolder’s reverse pass released Rowe who calmly sidefooted past Ashton to secure a hard won victory.
