Acomb assault victim dies in hospital

PoliceNorth Yorkshire Police have confirmed that Keith Wright has sadly died at Leeds General Infirmary at 9am today (Thursday 31 January 2013) after being on a life-support machine.

Mr Wright was subjected to an attack on Acomb Road in Acomb, York, at about 7.40pm on Monday 21 January 2013.

Liam Matthew Wyard, 19, and a 16-year-old youth who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (Section 18 – Wounding with Intent).

Following an appearance at York Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 23 January 2013, they were remanded in custody and the case was committed to York Crown Court on Monday 28 January 2013. A plea and case management hearing is due to take place at York Crown Court on 29 April 2013.

North Yorkshire Police will work with the Crown Prosecution Service to re-examine the joint charge in light of Mr Wright dying.

Detective Inspector Ian Dyer, of York CID, said:

Our thoughts are with Keith’s family who are naturally devastated by the terrible outcome at hospital.

This is an extremely tragic incident and we are doing everything we can to support them as we work hard to secure justice for Keith.
