Police issue drugs warning after 16-year old dies in York

PoliceA 16-year old girl has died in York due to a suspected drugs related incident.

Paramedics were called to a house in the Tang Hall area of the city at about 11.25pm on Thursday (19 April 2012). The girl was subsequently taken to York District Hospital where she was pronounced dead in the early hours of Friday (20 April 2012) following attempts to resuscitate her.

The yellow/white paste involved in this particular case is undergoing tests to determine exactly what it contains, although amphetamine is believed to be involved. Police are strongly urging people to not take a substance of this description.

North Yorkshire Police are continuing to investigate the suspected drugs-related death.

A 21-year-old local man, believed to be connected to the incident, is in a serious but stable condition. He was taken to York District Hospital by a friend.

A 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from York, have been arrested in connection with the investigation and remain in custody for questioning.

Police enquiries have been ongoing in and around the address at Tang Hall as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

In relation to this investigation, North Yorkshire Police and the North Yorkshire & York Primary Care Trust are urging anyone with drug-related health concerns to seek medical assistance without delay.

Either contact your GP or go to straight to hospital if required.

Until this is confirmed, people are strongly urged not to risk taking substances matching this description or of a similar nature.

One girl has already died and a young man is in a serious but stable condition at hospital, so the potential dangers are very real.
