City of York Council has published travel information for residents and visitors to assist them to get to the city centre and station in advance of upcoming road closures around York Station.
Work to finish the carriageway surfacing around York Station will start on 1 June and be carried out in four stages.
Details for the first three weeks have been confirmed and are available to view online at www.york.gov.uk/StationGateway.
Each section of the work has its own page with:
Week 1 covering work between 1 June and 7 June
Week 2 covering work between 8 and 12 June
Week 3 covering work between 15 and 19 June
Information for work taking place in week 4 between 22 and 26 June will follow

Information and advice on getting to the city centre is also available.
With nighttime works set to get underway the council is asking residents and visitors to plan ahead. Both the city centre and Station are very much open for business.

Councillor Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport said:
We are now in the final stages of work on the carriageways and set to complete the area around the station.
We are asking people to plan ahead over the coming weeks and have published detailed information for all modes of transport to help them get to the city centre and York Station.
We are doing all that we can to minimise disruption, including detailed planning and sharing this information to help people to plan ahead. As with the previous Queen Street closures, we are encouraging everyone to plan their journey ahead and help reduce traffic congestion by using public transport, walking and cycling where possible.
The station and nearby businesses will remain open.
Buses will continue to operate but some routes will be diverted as a result of the night closures. There will also be free shuttle buses running between Blossom Street and the station during the night closures.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout and the gates at Lowther Terrace will be open as usual for pedestrian and cycle access to and from the station.
The station long stay car park remains closed as Network Rail work on a new multi-storey car park.
Current & upcoming works
Nightworks are taking place on weekday nights this week (w/c 18 May) to construct new cycleways and a new pedestrian island on Queen Street. Between 7.30pm and 5.30am traffic lights will be in place while the works take place.
From 8.00pm on Tuesday 26 May until 6.00am on Thursday 28 May temporary traffic lights will be in place near the left luggage building (Ex Autohorn) to ensure work in that area can safely go ahead. This will include working in the carriageway during the day on Wednesday 27 May when the road is open to vehicles but the temporary lights will lead to delays.
Section 1 (1 June- 7 June)
This will involve nighttime works with a closure from the entrance to the Milner Hotel to just beyond the current entrance to the Portico. This will affect vehicular access to the Portico and Tea Room Square throughout the week, with alternative arrangements for Blue Badge Holders and Taxi drivers in place. The works will take place each night from Monday 1 June to the morning of Friday 5 June inclusive between 8pm and 6am. The road will reopen each morning, however Tea Room Square, the Portico and the short stay car park will be closed throughout the week. During this week Blue Badge Parking will be available near the York RI / South Train Shed with Tea Room Square opening in the early hours of Monday 8 June.
Following this, to install the Hardicrete (re-enforced surfacing material), work will take place around Tea Room Square on 5, 6 and 7 June. Due to the time it takes for this additional surface layer to cure. However, Station Road will be open to vehicles on these days.
On the night of Friday 5 June there will be a lane closure on Station Road from 8pm until 6am to facilitate the laying of Hardicrete in the bus bay at Tea Room Square. Traffic lights will be in place with vehicles able to travel in both directions.
The works taking place will see the final areas around the Milner Hotel paved, and Hardicrete installed to improve the robustness of the bus laybys.
Section 2: 8 to 12 June
Work will be taking place from the South Train Shed to near the Station Portico. This will require nighttime closures in this area (Orange section above) with the road closing at 8pm each night from Monday 8 June until works finish by 6am on Friday 12 June. The road will reopen by 6am each morning. When the nighttime closures are in force, access to the Station Portico and Tea Room Square for vehicles will be possible from the Station Rise side of Station Road, meaning access to the Short Stay car park for Blue Badge holders will be possible throughout this week.
During this period the road will be resurfaced in this area.
Section 3: 15 to 19 June
This will see work taking place from the South Train Shed to the junction with Blossom Street. It will require nighttime closures in this area (Yellow section above) with the road closing at 8pm each night from Monday 15 June until work is completed by 6am on Friday 19 June. The road will reopen each morning at 6am. When the nighttime closures are in force, access to the Station Portico and Tea Room square for vehicles will be possible from the Station Rise side of Station Road, meaning access to the Short Stay Car Park for Blue Badge holders will be possible throughout these works.
This will allow the resurfacing of the final section of road and to link the majority of cycle lanes into the final road layout.
Further works
Nighttime closures 22 June to the morning of 26 June, and bus stop works 3 to 5 July.
Further nighttime works are planned to tidy up and finish off some areas. This will be done through nighttime closures from 8pm on Monday 22 June, finishing at 6am on Friday 26 June, with the road reopening each morning. More details about what this will entail will be shared in the coming weeks.
On the weekend of 3 to 5 July work to lay the Hardicrete (in section 2) to prolong the life of the surface of the bus stops will take place. This will mean that the bus stops will be out of use from 8pm Friday 3 July until 6am Monday 6 July. Temporary traffic lights will be in place while this happens. Bus diversions will also be in place, and a shuttle bus will be in operation to support people travelling in the area to their bus route with more details to follow.
