Police hunt harassment suspect in Harrogate

An incident occurred as a girl walked through the town centre area at approximately 9.30pm on Wednesday 30 November 2011.

Harrogate Police have compiled an e-fit of a man who approached a 17-year-old girl in the town and made inappropriate comments.

The man approached the girl, trying to engage her in conversation and making suggestive comments. When she ignored him, the suspect grabbed her mobile phone before again making an inappropriate request. The girl managed to grab her phone back before running away.

The man is described as Asian, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 9in tall with a slim build and broad shoulders. He spoke with an Indian accent.

Detective Sergeant Ed Noble, of Harrogate CID, said:

Harrogate is a family friendly town and it is wholly unacceptable that anyone should be approached and accosted in such a manner.

I need to trace the man so that I can speak to him and prevent this type of behaviour happening again the future.

I would also like to speak to anyone who may have been approached in a similar circumstances and has not yet reported the incident to the police.
