Emergency services were called to a serious incident at a block of flats on St John’s Walk in the Heworth area of York on 29 January 2026.
The report came to the Fire Service of a small fire came in at around 1pm.
Firefighters located an unconscious man as they put the fire out, and he was recovered to an ambulance, but died on the way to hospital.
His next of kin have been informed.
A joint police and fire investigation is underway to examine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
