North Yorkshire Hospice Care’s ongoing commitment to supporting Veteran community

10 November 2025

North Yorkshire Hospice Care, which comprises Saint Michael’s Hospice, Herriot Hospice, and Just ‘B’, offers vital hospice care for terminally ill people and their families, and comprehensive bereavement and emotional wellbeing support for children, young people and adults.

The Veteran Healthcare Alliance accreditation, which was received in June 2025, demonstrates the organisation’s dedication to providing compassionate, equitable care for the veterans community and increasing the support they are offered, as part of its ongoing strategy to reach 50% more beneficiaries by 2027.

The recognition follows a collaborative effort from staff across departments, including several with military connections, who helped evidence best practice in supporting local military communities. The organisation was praised for its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and its proactive steps to include veterans as both staff and volunteers.

Clare Schmidt, Director of Client Services at Just ‘B’, said:

We are proud to have received this accreditation, which reflects our promise to deliver inclusive, person-centred care for everyone.

Veterans bring unique strengths and experiences, be that as a patient, client or colleague. It’s important for us to ensure these individuals always feel recognised, supported and valued.

Sharing this news around Remembrance Day feels especially meaningful, as we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and reaffirm our commitment to them.

The Veteran Covenant Healthcare Alliance Accreditation highlights North Yorkshire Hospice Care’s continued focus on compassion, respect, and inclusivity for all, ensuring every person receives the care and understanding they deserve.
