Boroughbridge Police Station to be put up for sale as there is no longer a need for a base in the town

24 July 2018

Boroughbridge Police Station is to be put up for sale with the last members of staff who use the building moving out on 31 August 2018.

North Yorkshire Police say it was decided that the building, which is not open to the public and frequently unoccupied, should be closed in 2013 as part of the review of North Yorkshire Police’s estate because it did not provide fit for purpose or value for money facilities.

North Yorkshire Police have said that there will be no impact on the level of policing in the town and that new technology with mobile equipment means there is no need for a physical base.

North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan said:

Based on the operational recommendation of North Yorkshire Police, now is the right time to sell the building that housed Boroughbridge’s Police Station, reinvesting the proceeds from an underused and expensive property in frontline policing.

New ways of working mean officers are able to spend more time visible and accessible on the streets rather than having to work in buildings that are not fit for purpose and do not provide taxpayers value for money. Residents and businesses tell me this is important to them and the new technology we have invested in allows that to happen in Boroughbridge and across North Yorkshire.

  1. It is a sad day , when once again financial gain is a driving force within North Yorkshire police , a once busy office with a Sargent and 6 constabules looking after the area and facilities there for the motorway patrol officers ,, now we are down to one consable and 2 pcso , the money been swallowed up into central budget , and if you call progress , an officer going round with laptop computer stuck in a car , then yet again the link to its community gone . We can spend £3million on a call center , but what communities need is a presence ,,
