Hundreds attend the Spring Show at Ripon Cathedral

16 April 2018

The sun came out in Ripon on Saturday for the Spring Food, Home & Garden Show at the cathedral, hundreds of people poured through the doors to enjoy a great day out for all the family. People came from all over Yorkshire to see the animals which were kindly provided by Brimham Rocks Adventure Farm, outside on the cathedral forecourt which attracted young children and families to the event. Lambs, chicks, rabbits, a goat, an alpaca and a baby calf were on show.

There was a great buzz of activity and excitement throughout the day, the café served hot pulled pork rolls, homemade cakes, and hot drinks. Children’s craft activities included candle making, and bee related craft activities. There was an attractive plant stall selling affordable home-grown plants and vegetables which was organised and manned by volunteers.

There were also live cooking demonstrations by Executive Chef at The Old Deanery Hotel Lee Rushforth  and Sue Nelson, founder of Yorkshire Food Finder were both very popular with visitors, with standing room only!

Gardening expert Doug Stewart was also talking about growing your own herbs and offering advice to visitors throughout the day. The birds of prey included an Eagle Owl from Thorp Perrow he was also a big hit with the visitors (pictured) who were given the opportunity to have their photograph taken holding the bird.

Over 70 stalls of gardening goods, tasty food treats and homewares (pictured: Derek Priestley Cheesemongers.) including local businesses as well as all over Yorkshire.

The amount raised of £9,500 for Ripon Cathedral Renewed, supporting the Dean’s development plans for a 21st century cathedral. We would like to thank all of our hard-working volunteers who helped to make the event a great success. Also like to thank the main sponsor Harron Homes and our Principal Business Partners CNG, Brewin Dolphin Leeds, BMW and Mini Stratstone for their generous support.

Please make note of the date and join us next year on Saturday 30 March 2019. We hope you can join us at another event at the Cathedral soon. The annual cathedral Beer Festival takes place on May Day Bank Holiday Monday 7 May 2018.
