Train hits tractor on level crossing near Knaresborough

A train has struck a vehicle on the rail line between Harrogate and York.

British Transport Police, North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance, NHS HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) and Air Ambulance have been in attendance.

The British Transport Police are currently managing the incident and have issued the following statement.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman: We were called to Oakwood Farm level crossing, Knaresborough at 6.19pm on Thursday, 14 May, after a report that a train had struck a vehicle.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened but at this stage it is believed the 5.29pm Leeds to York service struck a tractor on the crossing.

We are currently on scene with colleagues from North Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The driver of the tractor has been taken to hospital for treatment.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.

It is believed that there have only been minor injuries as a result of this incident.

Buses have replaced trains between Leeds and York via Harrogate.
