Pedestrian injured in York collision

Police remain at the scene of the serious collision in York in which a man in his 80s (not 40s as previously believed) sustained serious injuries.

Officers have renewed their appeal for witnesses to the collision which occurred outside the York Fairfield Manor Hotel on the A19 Shipton Road in Skelton.

The incident was reported at around 3.50pm this afternoon and involved the pedestrian and a dark grey Ford Focus.

The injured man was wearing a blue top and dark coloured trousers and police are appealing for anyone who saw the man prior to the collision or witnessed the actual incident to contact them as soon as possible.

The victim was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he remains with serious head injuries.

The road is expected to remain closed for at least another two hours.

North Yorkshire Police are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision in York.

Officers were called at around 3.50pm today (2 July 2012) after reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a car on Shipton Road, in Skelton.

The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 40s, suffered a serious head injury in the incident and has been taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.

The road is currently closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for some time as officers conduct their investigations into the collision.

Any witnesses to the collision are urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101
