Ripley Village

Ripley announced as new venue for Youth Festival

1 March 2016

Ripley has been announced as the latest of Yorkshire’s spectacular venues to host performances as part of the Harrogate International Youth Festival – Music and Performing Arts.

As part of the 2016 programme, the stunning village of Ripley will join Harrogate’s Royal Hall, Newby Hall, Ripon Cathedral and Fountains Abbey as one of the Festival’s stunning venues for performers from the region, across the UK and the event’s international guests.

On Easter Monday from noon, music fans are invited to free performances in the centre of the village. A truly international range of groups will perform including: Schaumburger Choir (Germany), Coláiste Bhríde (an Irish band), Blackburn with Darwin Big Band (UK), Harrogate Sea Cadets, Tewit Youth Band, St Aelred’s Irish Dancers and the Naisula School Choir (Kenya).

The Festival is famous for high quality youth performances in some of the region’s finest venues and most spectacular locations. The full event itinerary has now been released and tickets can be purchased online via the newly launched box office at www.hiyf.co.uk.

Sir Thomas and Lady Ingilby are delighted that Ripley will be hosting performances for the Harrogate International Youth Festival, they said:

You couldn’t get a more English setting than the cobbled market square in the middle of Ripley, with the Boar’s Head Inn, market cross and village stocks as the backcloth: the atmosphere at the concert is guaranteed to be fantastic.

With Ripley’s famous ice cream shop yards from the concert venue, any visiting cornet players will be able to have their cornet and eat it!

Lucy Zabaneh, Festival Director for Harrogate International Youth Festival commented:

Ripley is a truly beautiful addition to our list of fabulous outdoor venues and performance spaces. We want to keep opening up opportunities for our groups to perform and for our audiences to join in and see these incredible bands, choirs and dance groups and we are sure this will be a great success.
