Pateley Bridge 1940s Weekend is taking place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July 2017

Now in its fourth year, Pateley Bridge welcomes residents and visitors to attend this spectacular event.  Pateley Bridge is the capital of Nidderdale – a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The history and heritage of the area blends seamlessly with this event.  The weekend offers fun yet is also educational with the town reverting back to how it would have been in the 1940s.  Residents, shopkeepers and visitors will be dressed in period clothing with re-enactors in military uniforms from all the armed forces.

There will be displays including a full-size spitfire plane, military vehicles, field hospital with ambulance, Newfoundland dogs and the original bus that used to operate from Pateley Bridge in the 1940s.

Live entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend by legendary performer Paul Harper supported by Don Gentile and the Rum & Cola Girls.  The Summerbridge & Dacre Silver Band will be playing as well as the strolling ukulele players.

At the Memorial Hall, there will be talks, a book launch where refreshments will be available.  Why not visit the War Planning Room or have a chat with the folk from Folk Finders about where your relatives might have been at the outbreak of WW2.  Nearby is the award winning Nidderdale Museum which will be open specially for the 1940s event all weekend.

Inside St Cuthbert’s School Hall there will be vintage stallholders and in the field by the bridge over the River Nidd, there will be outdoor stalls both selling 1940s clothing and memorabilia – helping to create nostalgia.

Why not go along to the 1940s wedding re-enactment on the Saturday afternoon led by Rev Mike and Rev Darryl at Pateley Bridge Methodist Church (top of High Street)

The weekend will be action packed with a flyover on the Saturday afternoon by a World War Two Spotter Plane (weather depending), military displays including the Khaki Bloomers who strip and restore military vehicles.  Vehicles including caravans from the era will be displayed with Land Army Girls, evacuees and a Bevin Boy walking around the town.

This year for the first time the organisers of the 1940s Weekend the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade are holding an official dance at the Memorial Hall on the Saturday evening (now sold out).

During the weekend, why not visit the numerous restaurants, cafes, tea rooms where you will enjoy fantastic food & drink and a warm welcome.  You can enjoy drinks and food in Pateley Bridge at the Crown Public House or at the Royal Oak, Bridgehousegate where during the evening both will have live entertainment

To make sure the weekend runs smoothly, there will be Policemen from the period looking out for ‘Spivs’ and the Haworth Home guard will be protecting Pateley Bridge from uninvited intruders.

Enjoy the weekend and go away with lots of photographs and memories of what is sure to be a memorable event.

Admission to the event is free! Ample all day car parking for £5 at the event is available on the Nidderdale Showground.
