As part of the cathedral’s musical outreach and community programme, 350 local school children have been invited to come together for The Big Sing at Ripon Cathedral on Wednesday 4 July at 1.30pm. Members of the local community are welcome to come along to enjoy the concert.
Aoife O’Connell, the Singing Development Leader said “I am delighted that so many schools have agreed to support the end of term concert. The children will rehearse in the cathedral in the morning and the concert will commence at 1.30pm given by the children to celebrate the end of the school year and to showcase their singing”.
The outreach programme commenced in September 2017 with the generous support of a grant from the Allchurches Trust. The programme provides free weekly singing sessions in local schools for boy and girls to enhance their musical education, promote togetherness, and build confidence through singing in a fun and engaging way.
James Laing, Director of Grants and Relationships at Allchurches Trust, said: “We are delighted to have been able to provide funding for Ripon Cathedral’s music outreach programme. The programme is enabling the cathedral to forge even stronger links with local schools and youth groups, as well as protecting its rich musical heritage for future generations. We are proud to support The Ripon Big Sing and wish all of the children the very best of luck for their performance.”
The aims of the programme are to help promote working together as a community, to give young people opportunities to sing together and to perform at the Cathedral.
A newly formed Youth Choir for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 has also been formed and made its debut performance at the recent installation of the Right Rev Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, Bishop of Ripon. The Youth Choir rehearse weekly during term time. For more information, visit http://riponcathedral.info/music-outreach/
